Our Logo   "The countryside and coastline at Chilling and Brownwich are some of the real treasures of our area. If we are to protect it, the County Council needs to understand how much opposition there is in our community to their destruction by gravel extraction. We need to make our voices heard. Please dont leave it to someone else to speak up on your behalf." - 12/12/2007 Mark Hoban MP for Fareham

How did CAMELSolent come about and who are we

CAMELsolent was formed early in December 2007 by a group of local residents when we found out about the proposed gravel extraction.

Initially we focused on investigating the proposals and getting the extension to the consultation deadline.

From that we progressed to setup the website, distribute leaflets and posters, started the media coverage with the initial report in the Informer local free paper.

From there we got Keith Evans our local councillor who contacted Mark Hoban on our behalf who the started the ball rolling with the rest of the local press. Mark agreed to chair a public meeting and the rest as they say is history.

Who are we, concerned local residents :-

  • Pauline and Nigel Bowdler
  • Kate and Paul Davis
  • Janet and Ron Gill
  • Kay and Mike Wilks

We appreciate the numerous of offers of help which we have received.  As the Consultation Process gains momentum, we will need to keep a careful watching brief and in the event of it appearing that Chilling/Brownwich may become a Preferred Site, we will increase our activities and will contact all those who have offered support to enable us to maximise our Campaign.

We will continue to keep the situation in the public domain as much as possible so that affected residents can make informed decisions and register their views through the proper channels
