02/07/2008 - Mark Hoban MP will make a presentation
to the Warsash Beaver Group at 13:45 on Saturday 5th July at the Warsash
Festival (Strawberry Fields)
25/06/2008 - At the Hampshire County Council Cabinet
meeting on Monday, the plan was approved in its un-modified form to be
recommended to the full council when it meets on 10th July. So we are a step
closer to being removed from the plan.
18/06/2008 - We are very pleased to record that the
Report of the Director of Environment to the Hampshire County Council Cabinet
for its meeting on 23rd June under the heading "Approval for the Hampshire
Minerals Plan" includes the proposal - that Chilling and Brownwich Farms,
Warsash, which were originally included as alternatives, be rejected on the
basis of appraisal issues (protection of existing uses - agricultural,
recreation, strategic undeveloped and open coastal landscape) - preference for
Hamble Airfield and Forest Lodge Farm."
Accordingly if the proposals are accepted by Hampshire County Council Cabinet
and subsequently by the Hampshire County Council full meeting on 10th July, the
Hampshire Minerals Plan to be published in September will omit reference to
Brownwich and Chilling Farms.
Further representations on the soundness of the Plan will be invited from the
public and in due course there will be a public examination leading to a hearing
probably in the Autumn of 2009. There remains a possibility that things will
change during the course of the further public consultation and public
examination but nonetheless it is great news that the present proposals to the
Hampshire County Council Cabinet are that Brownwich and Chilling be omitted from
the Hampshire Minerals Plan.
We will of course continue to monitor the situation and report further on
material developments.
13/06/2008 - Warsash Festival, Strawberry Fields.
We will be holding an art Exhibition to continue our
campaign against gravel extraction and landfill in the Chilling Bromwich area .
The exhibition will be held at the Warsash Festival on Sat 5th July. Framed
photographs and paintings will be on Sale featuring the beautiful Chilling and
Brownwich area, which have all been produced by local artists. We are not a fund
raising group and all proceeds from the sale of artworks will be handed directly
to the Artists .
The Warsash Beaver group have willingly given their time and effort to produce a
collage of the Chilling and Bromwich area, this will also be on display at the Camelsolent
stand throughout the afternoon. A presentation will be made to the
Beaver group by Local MP Mark Hoban during the afternoon.

Press Releases
03/01/2008 - Informer due out 04/01/2008.
Concern for locals as
Chilling and Brownwich is
listed for gravel extraction
THE Hampshire County Council proposal
for the extraction of 8 million tons of gravel from the Chilling and Brownwich
Estates followed by landfill of the quarried area could have a devastating
effect on those living within the Western Wards of Fareham for the next 10/15
years. The Hampshire Minerals Plan identifies a number of areas for gravel
extraction and landfill and although the Preferred Sites are in Hamble with the
Chilling and Brownwich site noted as an Alternate, the residents of Hamble are
fiercely opposing the proposal and the County Council have made it clear that if
a Preferred Site is removed from the list it will have to be replaced by one of
the Alternate Sites.
“The Chilling and Brownwich Estates cover
such a vast area (equivalent to the size of 70 St. Mary’s Stadiums!) that if
they become a Preferred Site the entire Western Wards will become a nightmare”
according to one concerned resident.
Fears range from plummeting house prices
and continuous noise and dust to traffic congestion and the destruction of a
unique leisure area and all the wildlife within it.
The Hampshire County Council Consultation
document invited public comment by the 12 December but this has been extended to
15 January because the Council omitted to give notice of the Consultation Paper
to residents who will be directly affected by the Proposal.
Further information can be obtained from
a website set up by an Action Group called CAMELSolent (Campaign Against Mineral
Extraction and Landfill) at www.camelsolent.org.uk.
CAMEL have also arranged a meeting which
will be chaired by Mark Hoban MP and attended by Cllr Keith Evans and others.
Mark Hoban, who lives in Locks Heath said
“The countryside and coastline at
Chilling and Brownwich are some of the real treasures of our area. If we are to
protect it, the County Council needs to understand how much opposition there is
in our community to their destruction by gravel extraction. We need to make our
voices heard.”
The meeting will be at Brookfield School
in Warsash on Saturday 5 January 2008 at 6.00pm.
